Hi I've just bought a Lionel Redwood valley express set not knowing it was 12v DV only. Has anyone converted it to run on 18v AC with an E unit, if so can you recommend were to buy one & any tutorials on how it was done with pictures as I'm hands on only not good with the written word instructions.

Here is a diagram of the traditional Lionel General. Simply add the parts that your locomotive does not have which may simply be only the electronic e-unit, bracket, and likely the direction lockout switch components above it:

Any one used Dallee E units, Ease of fitting etc. please
The generals do not have a lot of space to work with and the correct e-units and associated parts are available and a direct fit, so why look another (possibly more expensive) direction?
I have used the Dallee e-units and I think they're great. The 4-amp one is pretty small, although in any steam loco installation I would probably sacrifice the whistle and put the e-unit in the tender, complete with 4-wire tether and an extra roller pick-up for maximum reliability. That being said I agree with Mr. Moran's comments above.
