I good friend of mine asked me to help him get his PW Lionel 'set' operational about six or seven years ago. After taking about a weeks worth of evenings to clean up, lube and replace a few parts, Bruce's trains were up and running. He had received this 'set from his aunt in Buffalo, NY.

A couple of weeks ago Bruce called to let me know he had something for me. He has been retired for a few years and decided to unclutter his house. Bruce has always been a man of simple means. Well, he presented me with his old 'set'.

Over the past week, I again took the time to clean and lube everything. And, right now I am enjoying watching these old Lionel pieces run around the simple loop of track that Bruce ran them around. I called to let him know 'his train' was up and running again! He was quite happy. Most likely, I will run them under the tree this year. It's an early, but nice way to start the season!  Thanks Bruce!

Thanks Everyone!

Steamer, that is very true! I have known Bruce since the early 1990's. Met him in the Delaware National Guard. We shared some other interests back then. I still have his recipe for kimchi (did I spell that correctly???). Good stuff.

Surprisingly, Bruce never ran the trains after the earlier cleaning. Just put them away. I am sure he will enjoy seeing them running this year when he visits my family!

Great set, especially with that 6464 boxcar.  I notice the one rear tender step is broken off which is common.  The 1033 is a great transformer too.  Enjoy them.

Last year I had someone just give me a botched up ZW 275 watt transformer. It needed lots of work but it was free!  Cleaned up beautifully.

pennsydave,

A very nice transformer!

Back when I first took care of Bruce's trains, all he wanted was for them to run again. He didn't even want the coupler springs fixed. I did, how ever, fix them this time around. The tender shell actually has a bad crack at each screw hole. I simply fixed it for Bruce by using super-glue. It's still holding today! I will try to track down an original shell, but as good as it looks (minus the step) I may just leave it alone.

Sorry Henry, I guess I hijacked your thread with my transformer info.  Good luck finding a 2046 original shell. I had the same problem on my 2056 engine with that tender. I bought it and did not even notice the step was broken! I think that Peoria 6464 boxcar is great to have!  I will have to look up it's value.
