Butch, I think you need to temper your criticism.

Why would this person give the hobby a bad name?

I would hardly refer to an Overland Model as "crap".

Overland is for high end, O scale 2 rail Modelers. Not in the same ballpark as our MTH, Lionel, Atlas, Weaver models that you might be accustomed to.

The work that went into the model must be absolutely gorgeous. Some will recognize the quality and some will not, but trashing the seller, manufacturer and the train modeler who did the work is not in the best interest of this wonderful Hobby.

I personally think it is grossly overpriced.  However, our system is capitalism, and this seller is doing what any good capitalist should do - maximizing profit.  One ought to be able to ask any price - and a purchaser ought to be able to buy overpriced goods.

We should be able to criticize, but I submit that personal attacks are in poor taste.

Martin has a cure for these guys - I forget the details, but it goes something like start charging if the thing gets no bids after two or three cycles - a percentage of the asking price.

All opinion, of course

Here's my two pennies worth.

This vendor has now amended the original listing, it originally compared his custom painter to another named painter in Canada in adverse terms,  an unnecessary personal attack in an auction listing.

As for the price in full agreement with UP148. If this vendor gets anywhere near this fantasy price it proves the old adage: some people have more money than brains.

OMI is IMHO not high end, I write this as an owner of some OMI, GP60's, GP40's, dash 9's etc   it is distinctly middle tier: the etches on the EMD latches are very poorly executed, there is no absolutely no depth to them. Atlas and Red Caboose have at least some accuracy in this area, Oriental exceeded OMI's standards at least 20 years ago with their SD45, don't even get me started on the fan etches.  OMI have a long way to go which is why I am eagerly looking forward to the MWMW product.

I think it's funny that the seller is still charging over $36 for shipping for an item he has listed for better than $6K. I could just see if a potential sale was lost because the buyer demanded free shipping on such a pricey item and the seller refused to capitulate.

On a much lesser scale, Lionel I-12 cabooses are grossly overpriced, in some instances, by over 100% of their retail price on eBay.

I don't think this seller makes the hobby look bad, just himself. I see it all of the time on eBay Motors. Every once in awhile I'll call one out for discrepancies in the listing that would greatly affect the asking price and immediately the seller is on the defensive.

I suspect that this seller doesn't really know exactly what he has nor does he know what it's value is so it's much easier to set the price high then come down, but at that price, he has a long way to go before he generates any serious interest.
