That's very interesting. I look forward to sampling the new sounds. Where do the new sounds come from? RS5?

I hope they put some higher quality sounds on the new board, that would be great!

I don't see one on their site, I'd just like to know if they've improved the sound quality.  Henning's has a bunch on order, so I'll be able to try one out soon.

It says on the website that the new sound board can be used for conventional operation.

Maybe I am missing something,I went to the site and do not see the price for the board or kit. I just see RS4 with commander. I do not think commander is for conventional.

Dale, the RS Commander can be used for conventional, you should download the manual and check it out.  I'm sure the new product will work with conventional as well.

The compact size may allow for sound in sloped tenders maybe. Do you know the speaker impedance? I used buy the DD ones and was happy with them,hey used 8 ohm. Would you have a charging circuit for a BCR to use instead of a battery backup?

I hope you will continue to give us conventional operators some product line. How well does the cruise feature work in conventional from the commander if I purchased it? Is the chuff for steam still a reed switch?

The one qustion is can we be able to add outher things like smoke for whisle or blowdown yet.

 I have locos I would like to add this to. We have costomers that we are doing engins for keeping us if we can add this feature.

Is there a way to add these features for our costomers and my owen locos.

How far off are we from custom-order sound sets (i.e. this locomotive with this whistle and this crew chatter)?   It can't be that difficult. 

WOWAK, you read my mind!  That's exactly what I was going to suggest.  I just ordered a new board to finish an upgrade of a K-line porter I upgraded to TMCC.  But I would live to custom order a board with my own custom script and have my kids do the voiceovers. 

 

i'd gladly sign a waiver accepting the quality as it comes out :-)

Well that's the next obvious step past custom chips is a writable chip that the end user (or a third party) could add custom sounds too.  Since recording steam locomotives is a not unheard of hobby, I'm sure some savvy individuals could make useable files for a railsounds chip (if Lionel is forthcoming with the format.)  Last weekend Strasbourg #90 ran a Reading freight hooter; this would have been perfect for my Reading engines.

There is no reason that lionel and ERR couldn't do this it's being done in HO and n gauge. It puts us behind the times of what.  teckknolage  Is out there for sound.

I wouldn't hold your breath for this feature.  I'd love to see it, but for some reason Lionel has not embraced the concept of downloading like MTH has.

 

If I'm reading the ERR site correctly, I need the Railsounds Commander for an Alco PA, to match the sounds for a RS3.  Both the PA and the RS3 had the same prime mover.

Santa brought me one of the new ERR Railsounds upgrades (Thanks to Bill for helping her with great service!).

Installed it two days ago and all i can say is WOW!!! First it takes longer to disassemble and re-assemble the engine than to do the installation. ERR couldn't have made it any simpler (and i've been doing installations of Sound Commanders and Railsounds 4 Commanders for over a decade for local hobby shops).

But the sound itself is amazing! I parked the loco with the new Railsounds next to ones with Railsounds 4 and Railsounds 2.5, and then compared them. All i can say is ERR has a winner here.

That's great, now if they'd only expand the sound file types, we'd be in heaven.

 

I also put in the newest ERR Railsounds in a MTH SD90mac, I ordered the SD kit

and for me it is dead on sounds and you have eight levels of volume and the

crew talk and tower is clear, you can understand it. Believe me, more of my

railsounds will be changed over! Would like to hear all the sounds they offer.

The kit I bought, it said SD 40-50-60. I think any one with a SD will be happy

with this sound Kit

 

Just wish our order would get in.

We ordeded at least 1 of each board and some as many as 12 boards and a ton of cruse comanders to go with them.

We have been waiting for weeks.

I don't think that thy can handle big orders.

I have cousotmers waiting for these boards and jobs that need to be done.

If i upgrade using a new sound set and ERR drop in(modular)Do we still need to add magnets to get 2 chuff engines to 4?

Yep, triggering the sounds doesn't change.

 

I mailed Christmas cards to my family on the 15 of December and they did not get them until the 30th.  Check with Ken on Monday to get an update on your order, we usually ship in a few days.

 

Also, ElectricRR was shut down between Christmas and New Years; so no orders shipped in this time frame.

 

 

Looking at the list, the GG1 and EP5 are lumped together.  Is there a jumper to select which one or is it one sound set?  

 

I grew up in the NY metro area and my grandfather worked at the Farley Building next door to Penn Station.  Those engines may have both been electric but they didn't sound anything alike.  Even the horns were very different.  

 

I'm still looking for a true EP 5 sound set with jet whine and Hancock Air Chime.
