Electric Railroad upgrades

Modern Williams stuff takes standard couplers, and the electrocouplers from Lionel fit fine.  You just need to measure the end to end length of the existing coupler to see which one you need.

The Cruise Commander will work with any motor within reason.  Either of the Williams engines will work fine with it.  It may not speed control your smoke unit motor, but then, who cares.

how about the smaller truck mounted DC motors?

     You can add cruise and sound to both engines and coil couplers. You can use either of the following coil couplers 610-8855-550 or 610-8274-550. We have the Cruise commander with sound $179.95 Shipped and the couplers at $8.50 each. The kits are complete.

If your talking about this truck, it can be converted also. You will have a lot of extra work to add coil couplers to these trucks.

I had some old lionel f3 coil coupler kits. I tried these on the sd90. They did not work. I then realized the thickness of the coupler where the t bar goes through was to thick.I changed these with ones of the correct thickness. Same as the original coupler. The coil part of the wire hits the top of the pilot. The coupler does center .  But a bit tight for comfort. It is also not completely horizontal

If I added these boards but was running conventional would all the features work? I would expect the cruise and some sound but would there be a way to trigger the couplers.

No for TMCC engines.  Only MTH PS-2/3 allows a combination of 1 Bell and 3 or 4 Whistle signals to trigger couplers conventionally.  G
