Hello all.

I wanted to share with you some of the different inaccuracies of the different manufacturers' EMD E7/8 B units that I have.

MTH Premier E8B:

- Length scale 1' too long

- Truck wheelbase scale 8" too long

- Height correct

- Truck-to-truck centers correct

- Side sill too high

WBB E7B:

- Length scale 2' too short

- Truck wheelbase correct

- Truck center-to-center too short

- Height 0.125" too high

- Side sill too high

Lionel E7B (shell):

- Length scale 1' too long

- Height (on MTH frame) correct

- Side sill too high (closest to correct)

Heres a visual measurement comparison:

Thanks!

Mario,

Interesting post here.  Separately, they all look good to me.  Based on your measurements, I personally wouldn't run the WBB B unit with either the Lionel or MTH B-units in an ABBA configuration because of the length difference, although I don't think Es were operated that way very much. I would think the WBB unit would be acceptable with any scale dimensioned A unit since they are different shapes.

Width is the one area that I think really shows up is when running like items from different manufacturers next to each other. However, the area that is important to me in paint accuracy.

I agree!  They all look "right" and I would either run them with their respective A units, or in my case, I plan on running the WBB E7B unit with my PA-1.  I haven't looked at paint color, yet...

So far, the widths are all dead on!

Thanks for the comments!
