After setting up my dad's #10 set around his tree, I had this many pieces left over to set up this dogbone.  My initial try with a CW80 was predictable I guess.     That is headed towards the dump, where it belongs.  Fortunately I was able to get just enough keys beeping on my Cab1 to set it up with a powermaster and 135 powerhouse.  It's been two years since I had trains running.  Check out the whistle on that beautiful 1835E.  Yeah baby!  I didn't remember it having that strong of a whistle.  Frankly I didn't even know it had a whistle till I tried.   What a great surprise.  Time to roll out some more iron and tinplate cars and play with some trains!  Cheers.

Blue baby states!  Next up, the mighty 385E hauling 500 freights.  The 385E has a good whistle also. But this guy is going to get some more track time first.  Really runs good.  I was messing around trying to set the stall on the powermaster and I got this guy stuck in neutral somehow.  I thought I had fried something by using the whistle, like the E unit, which also works very well on this engine.  After monkeying with it a bit, I figured out how to reset the PM and got it running in forward again then flipped the switch on the engine to lock it in forward.  That was a relief, hence my delight that everything is ok, and even better than I anticipated.  I was fearing the worst, but ended up on top.  How many times does that happen.

With the word out and the salesmen burning up the phone lines the freight yard filled up pretty quick.  Time to run some revenue with the 385E.  Of course my first inclination is to see how many pretty cars I can haul in a row, but I am limiting train size to five cars just to be nice to these vintage engines.  Old 385 isn't happy though.  He wants to haul ten, and I'm sure he can.  With a proud whistle and a heart of steel.  Just thought you guys might like to know there is another happy tinplate guy that arose from his slumber.  Cheers,       BK

Sans carpet.  It's ten below here and we are running on a plastic laminate floor on a concrete slab.  I spend half my days with my boots off next to the stove in the caboose trying to get some feeling back in my toes.  I have dreams about curling my toes amongst a thick pile shag rug.  Perhaps with mon ami.  We do what we gotta do.

There is truly something righteous in taking a pack of tinplate track, with some old tricks of the trade, knock it together, connect a couple of skinny wires, run a piece of sandpaper over the top of the rails, get it all tight, then roll the thunder baby.  Ninety year old trains will always be cool.  Long may they run.

Awesome! Beautiful stuff!

I suspect the CW-80 isn't junk. It just doesn't have enough clean amps to run Standard gauge. It has only about 3 amps or less at the track output. You should need about 2 amps, but I suspect that puts it close to the limit. There is a guy on the forum looking for some, regardless the condition.
