With MTH closing up shop, and Mike deservedly retiring, I was reminded of a time when another manufacturer did the same.

McCoy Manufacturing closed up their shop and stopped mass production of trains in 1998. Their last production item was a convention car built for the TCA convention. They constructed 189 of these good looking cars and they were sold through TCA. However, the very last car produced had a special letter put inside of it by Margaret.

I happened to get lucky a little while back and ended up with this car and letter, and I thought I would share it here. I wonder if Mike will do the same thing?IMG_20210128_163840124IMG_20210128_164018574IMG_20210128_164139866

My Grandfather was a McCoy collector. He took me as a guest to York when I was 17yrs old in 1983 and I had the pleasure of meeting  Bob and Margaret McCoy and purchasing my own Cascade E2 from them. Over the years I collected a handful of circus cars as paper route money and Christmas requests saw fit. When Grandpop passed, I inherited his McCoy collection.

Despite their famous zinc pest issues, I consider these to be high quality toys, and am trying my best to keep my McCoy fleet running.

I think I took it the right way...it is, after all, a seafood car. I have several hand written notes by Margaret, I can tell you it's authentic. And I've owned several of those cars, maybe even more than several, and this is the only one I've had with a note. And as a kid, I was lucky enough to visit the McCoy's at their house (and chicken coop) in Kent, Washington. Margaret even made us all lunch. She, and the entire family, were a class act in my opinion. They always treated my family wonderfully!

POC914NUT... a better headline for this thread, specifically mentioning McCoy, would draw more people in.
