I usually file a wee bit off the "lugs" on one side of the collector fiber board, and in doing so put just a little bevel on what remains.  Place the long lugs in their slots and press the board in place. The board does bend a little, but recovers its original form once secured.

 

I have never found it necessary to remove the pins or spread the frame when using this technique.
