Hi; purchased from Trainz , used Santa Fe GP38-2 with PS 3.0 , MTH # 20-20454-1. The remote reads NS SD 70ACe # 2649. From what I have checked this appears to be a Railking PS 2 engine inside the Santa Fe shell. It seems reasonable to return the engine but I would be interested in your experience and thoughts. Thanks, Richard

I would say return it. They do not check there items very well. I bought an engine from advertised
as new and it had 50 hours of run time. There are great on returns.......
I've also seen z4000 transformers for sale and say nib was not tested and not working ! on Trainz also! Trainz use to be good but the company has gotten so large that the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing! not Good! the good thing is they usually take anything back ! and they really really package all trainz so they wont get damaged in shipment!
you can only live off your name of your business until your too large to control your own business!

You can edit the engine name to read whatever you want. You just have to remember if you do a factory reset the original name will come back and you'll have to rename it again.
As Dave says, try the factory reset first. Let's see if the SF name comes back.
How did you ID NS #2649 as a RailKing PS2? In product locator it says it is an HO engine.
Did you physically looks inside? Typically you can't just put a PS2 board in a PS3 engine without at least consideration for protecting the LED lighting.
Is there a battery inside? If no, you have a PS3.
It will be interesting to see how this develops. After the factory reset, if you are disappointed or not happy, return it. If you are just mildly concerned and want to keep it, call them anyway. They may do something for your trouble.
Keep us up to date.

It's possible someone swapped boards. It can be permanently renamed with the dealer loader.
