I have an Lionel F3 Milwaukee Road from 1996. When I turn on the power the B unit which houses the sound and TMCC turn on before I address it. It did work when I first bought it two weeks ago but now does this. I tried resetting it with code 6 but no luck... Any ideas? Thanks

Well, the sound coming on before you enter a command suggests it's not seeing the TMCC signal. That's either an antenna issue or the TMCC receiver in the B-Unit isn't working. How about an actual Lionel product number?
6-18138. 6-18139. Thanks
Sounds like this board in the dummy isn't doing it's job. It's the TMCC receiver, and it sounds like TMCC isn't been seen by the dummy.

After the sounds come on, does it continue to communicate other functions in command mode?
I have these same engines and if I cut power and then turn power back on, without changing the engine ID, sometimes the sounds will start right back up.
The issue would be if the sounds come on, and you do not have command control functions. As John said, you most likely have a TMCC signal dropping out.
Things to check:
* Signal wire from base unit to outside rail
* Other TMCC engines (see if they respond to base unit)
* Check to make sure your grounded plug on your base plug (third grounding prong) is grounded to the house electrical ground. If it is not, this will cause issues like this.
Ok I’ll check what you listed
I finally checked everything you guys mentioned. It seems that the engine loses it settings. After a long time trying I can get it to reset. But if the sounds come on before I do so I can’t reset. I’m thinking the TMCC board is bad as John mentioned. Where can I get this board? Thanks
Drop me a line, I have the GP-9 upgrade kit that has that board in the kit. I can sell you the board and associated mounting hardware at an attractive price. ;-) I already used the couplers out of the kit, but I still have the board.
