At some point (probably 2004-2008) my grandfather and I installed an sound card into his Weaver 0-6-0 switcher. Recently it died for unknown reasons although it seems like the speaker is still good. My question for the forum, is that if I buy a new RailSounds Commander from 3rd Rail, am I correct in assuming that I should be able to just swap one for the other? Especially if you know if I will or will not have to replace the speaker anyway.

It appears you run conventional. You should have no problem with the replacement Railsounds board and get even better sounds. You have the old Sound Commander which was an entry level board for small engines. The new board will be slightly larger.

You have to check the ohm rating of the speaker. I believe the sound commander uses 16 ohms older sound systems used 8 ohms. in any case the sound commander comes with speaker to match.
You look to have the 4.?? version of the Sound Commander. Any Sound Commander kit will have what is needed to replace it, as long as you have room for the larger board of the new kits.

Nope. The old Sound Commander and the new RailSounds Commander both use 8 ohm speakers. The RailSounds board kit from Electric RR will contain a new speaker and baffle anyway.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I need to double check but I'm reasonably confident that we have enough space for everything. I was originally hoping for the speakers to be the same so I wouldn't have to remove the old one but a second glance as I was putting it away after pictures looks like it was way less secure than I feared.
