This locomotive alone has got my interest. Not one of the big ones like I like, but still a configuration no one here has made. I just wish they listed minimum radius.
Interesting. Thanks for posting. Very nice looking trains, especially the beer train. I've never heard of them before.
ETS has been around for a very long time. I wrote a product review of their starter sets for OGR many years ago--long before I joined the OGR staff. They don't advertise much (don't recall if they have ever advertised with us), but this thread alone demonstrates why they surely might benefit from getting the word out more.
Somebody has been set up in the Toyota?? (dealer) hall with ETS trains since, I think,
that hall opened at York. I always look hard at their EUROPEAN outline 0-4-4-0
articulated since it is the only 3 rail one extent, but think they need to follow the lead
of some of the auto importers who took a while to smarten up and style for the American market. Sounds like collectors need to be converted to rollers, too. Or, maybe, as someone said about Q-Car, on the thread running about the scratchbuilt
McKeen car, they have so much business, they don't care. (I see little traction
activity, at the March Meet or ?.. I tried to attend one magazine reported/scheduled traction show and could not find it, looking for stuff I could use for gas electrics, so I find it hard to believe a mfr. in that narrow traction market is overwhelmed)

ETS has a booth in one corner of the Orange Hall, next to the CTT booth. Gustav Taus, the firm's owner, is almost always on hand, along with his helpers, to show and sell their products. I first met Gustav years ago when he attended and participated in his first York Meet. They were in the Gold Hall back then.
ETS was/is located in the southwest corner of the Orange Hall.

if you like ETS you are going to love MERKUR
who is mckeen trains ,where are they and how can I purchase them?
Several European items on my wishlist are from ETS. Does anyone by chance know if the 3-axle milk tankers require a larger curve than the regular 2-axle cars? I think I emailed them a year or so ago about that, and never heard back.
Aaron
If I can find my 3-axle tanker, I'll see how it runs on 0-42 (the smallest curve on my layout). Might be a while; I think it's at the bottom of a big box that's behind another big box under the layout.

Does ETS sell direct at the York show or is it basically a display/info booth?

They sell at the meet (usually a fairly limited stock on hand though).
hobonorthern: McKeen cars were prototype cars made by a Union Pacific official in
some kind of affiliation with the Union Pacific RR in Omaha, Neb. They were an early attempt to build a self-propelled motor car. Someone on another thread is attempting to build a model of one from scratch, and is getting powering advice. As for where you
can buy one, a commercial model was canceled, so none is offered in O three rail.
The ETS Garratt is designed for ETS wide radius metric track, which is close to 0-54. It might well run on 0-48 Fastrack, but since I don't have any of that, I can't test it for you. ETS lists some locomotives as being available with sound, but all I've actually seen is a basic horn. My Garratt actually has a speaker installed, but nothing connected to it. I did see a Garratt on eBay several years ago that somebody had converted to TMCC.

Didn't RichArt release a few at one point in tinplate?
Eddie Marra: I THOUGHT the Rich Art ones were only made in STANDARD GAUGE, and
not in O. I spoke to the maker once at a Calif. convention (I think TTOS), or maybe it was that joint show they have outside San Francisco, about making them in O, but he didn't sound interested. The writer was asking where he could buy one...a lot of us
would like to know that answer, probably including the guy who is struggling to power
his scratch build (it would certainly save me from maybe having to scratch built one).
Somebody, PFM, or ?, did import an O SCALE brass one I saw...with its trailer, but like most current O scale brass, not cheap enough to want to convert to 3 rail.
Answers to the questions about minimum radius:
Sinclair: I tried my ETS Garratt on a loop of 0-42 tubular track, and it worked - barely. Based on that, I think you should be good to go on your 0-48 Fastrack.
GC Railways: The three-axle tanker ran fine on 0-42. That's the smallest curve on my layout, so I can't say how much tighter it would go.
Awesome! Thanks! Looks like I need to start saving up.

Watch the Bay. I've gotten almost all my ETS stuff on the secondary market - it's pretty pricey if you order it new. I got my Garratt on the Bay for around half MSRP. Of course, it was probably the only one on the auction in a period of two or three years. You need patience, or money, or both to collect ETS.

It has been a while ago I was on the forum. Now I notices agin that there is sime interst in ETS, MERKUR and so on.
I know there have been some difficulties with MERKUR in the past because they are no interested in modify their DC models for the US market. Bases on whta Sothwest Hiawatha has told me I did some research however I was not able to arrange a AC locomotive in a short time.
At this moment I talk with MERKUR about the US market and the whishes. Also I have arranged some possibilities in my native country Holland so I am able to modify MERKUR models.
So please if anyone is interested in MERKUR models, locomotives and so on, write an email to info@blik-en-speelgoed.nl When people are intersetd I am able to persuade MERKUR to build the AC models.
At this moment I cannot say that much but in their new catalogue ( I will put it online as soon as it is ready) about 6 new locomotive models will appear!!!! Also their tinplate building kit program is extended with about 5 new kits. With some friends from the UK we help MERKUR with the English part of the catalogue.
Rob
It's a pretty simple task to put a rectifier bridge into a locomotive body so it can run forward on AC. There are also electronic E-units available from at least three different manufacturers, and two of them should be small enough to go into almost any loco body.

Hey Steve, I sent you an email in semi - regards to this.
Thanks for your answers. I know it is possible to alter the locomotives. I know the manufactures of the rectifier bridges. However I think, when there is any interest in the MERKUR locomotives, it would be better when the manufacturer offers AC version.
I read some comments of people who said they would like the AC version. Well for me a challenge to convince the manufacturer if the effort is worth it.
So if you are intersetd just let me know, info@blik-en-speelgoed.nl

I've been talking with a few of the folks over at ETS on one of their trolley's, very nice people, easy to deal with but no money has been exchanged yet, I'm trying to get more info on their products.
The nice thing about Merkur are the buildings they offer. Tinplate and different but their website gives very little details so I can't even tell if they are O gauge buildings or something else?
I just wish we had some companies like that here in the states. I'm getting a little tired with the same things coming out of Lionel Corp
Well "Samdjr74" I may say the tinplate buildings of MERKUR are in gauge 0. I have build some of them, an apartment building, a loco shed, the cottage, a goods shed, a block tower (signal box) and the water tower. Most of the are easy to assemble, buts and nolts and sometimes you need some glue. The watertower has to been build in the same way as the watertowers in New York are build. No bult and nuts and no glue.....
You may take a glimpse on my website for some prices, www.blik-en-speelgoed.nl I deliver worldwide. If you need more information info@blik-en-speelgoed.nl

Hi Sam,
I am not for sure if you have received my reply/answer.
The prices in the website are in euro's and includes 21% Dutch VAT. No vat is charged when I ship to the US or other countries outside the EEC. You must pay your local taxes. As far as I know no custom duties. I use a Taric code. As far as I know it is accepted by the US.
Shipment to tyhe US is done by the Dutch post,. They are the cheapest and won't charge you for custom handling.
Prices are:
till 2 kg € 24,30
till 5 kg € 34,30
till 10 kg € 58,30
till 20 kg € 105,30
It takes about 10 work days to de delivered.
Depending on the order I may be able to give a small discount on the shipment costs.
Let me know if there are any questions.
Remember European O gauge tinplate including ETS is 1:45 not 1:48.

Yes, this is the scale. Track gauge is consistent. I have ETS tram track and have run Corgi O scale streetcars on it as well as my ETS tinplate trolley.
There is more on O gauge scales in this Wikipedia page. Multiple scale proportions in model trains occurs in N gauge as well. The reason is most probably historic differences in prototype gauges and proportions.
Yeah Bill and Sam,
There is no standard gauge 0. There is even a 1:43,5 . But ETS and MERKUR have both 1:45. Lehnhardt the German firm who build tinplate trams, most German but also some Swiss, buikld in 1:43,5. The trams of Lehnhardt are build for the tramtrack of ETS ( the streettrack).
