I like to keep my wiring simple and organized. I use terminal blocks to extend any wiring under the layout.
I use Terminal Strips[Barrier strips] at or very near the feeder location extensively for railpower and all accessories including lighting.[small 9x16 attic layout w/17 turnouts].
My turnouts are operated by Tortoise 12VDC motors. I extend wire runs from the power source[a 12 VDC wall wart] to the toggle switches on a panel which are used to activate my turnouts.
From the toggles I extend a + and {-} pair to a T-strip near the Tortoise motor and from the T-strip a pair to the #1 and #8 terminals of the motor. Initially, if I need to change polarity to correct turnout direction from thru to out or vice versa, I simply change the wires at the T-strip.

Rob's second picture is as good as it gets IMO colors match perfectly. Did 14 like that with never a problem.
