If this is a piston type you will need to custom fit the unit.  Normally you want the older tmcc style fan smoke unit.  Takes track power from the r2lc and returns via chassis ground (outside rail).  These are 27 ohm and will work fine with some minor modifications you can see on Lionel's website.  G

 

 

 

Sorry I misunderstood that you want to replace a puffer type with a fan driven type.

 

I have had good luck retrofitting MTH smoke units into K-Line engines by wedging them up inside the boiler using thin wedges of soft wood such as balsa. The smoke unit funnel has fit up to the stack base correctly and they work great.

This saves the bother of trial fitting and fabricating a one-of bracket to mount it to the frame.

The Lionel 8057 should work the same way, providing it fits within the space allowed in the boiler.
