As I posted recently, I picked up a set of NIB Lionel F3 AA's from 2003 with the noisiest fan motors I have ever heard.

I did see the drop of oil fix and will try that once my cradle arrives.

QUESTION:

I will probably buy a couple fan motors just to have them. From reading all the posts I see the MTH #BE-0000041 and the improved (?) Lionel #6101154130 are the ones to have.

CORRECT?

A squeal (metallic) won't be the fan blades (plastic).  Typically oiling the bearing solves it, but occasionally the bearing is worn or too dry so replace the fan motor.  If ordering MTH I think 5 the minimum quantity unless you get from a shop/tech.  I have yet had an MTH fan returned as bad after replacement.  Not the case with Lionel motors.  G

I've had noisey motors on Lionel, Mth, as well as Atlas.

Those that were "cured," needed the oil sometime with the first year of owning, never had a problem since

The only fan motor that oil didn't "cure" was my Lionel legacy k4 from 2011. This was the beginning of the "bad Lionel fan motor" epidemic.

It ranks right up there with the "broken berkshire bushing "issue

Interesting point about the fan motors GGG, I've never tried to order one...

Where are you getting them???  If you try to order one, you get the BE-0000041-5 part.  Which is 5.  I think gaskets also.  G

No the fan motor was worse... it really hurt the ears.

The bushings allot of us got lucky and were able to just glue them back in.

I doubtless order them from the same place you do.  Like I said, I never order one, I always order them in the quantities.  You're right, the gaskets come the same way.
