Can you run MTH trains on fastrack? I have a big fastrack setup with 4 switches and only run Lionel Lionchief engines, but want to step up my game and run MTH engines.
It seems from other posts that this is possible, but want to know exactly how and what do I need to buy?

Yes, I do with no problems, running DCS with LC+ control. I purchased a MTH set with a loco, some cars, and the DCS remote commander (infrared pointing remote). I have favored LC+ locos for the last couple of years.
Fastrack is pretty much like any other track as far as standard O-gauge stuff is concerned. I run tons of MTH on Fastrack, no issues here.
John, don't you also run the turnouts on track power, without problems?
Yep, but I replace the track power link with a 22uh choke, that solves the DCS signal degradation issues. You can also simply run them with independent power, but the beauty of command switches is no wiring if you don't need the manual switches. With the LCS and an iPad, you can control the switches visually and installation is a breeze. 
Ok, what if I wanted to run my LC+ locos at the same time as a MTH loco?
No problem at all, if you're running DCS or TMCC/Legacy, you have 18V constant voltage on the tracks, the LC+ will love it.
