Fastrack want work a Lionel coal dump car

Seems like your voltage is not set high enough. Not sure if you're using track voltage or accessory voltage. Cant answers why it would work better with traditional track. Must be something in the electrical connections / makeup of the Fast Track versus the tubular.

I was wondering the same thing,  but didn’t know if anyone had an idea of why the difference in operation between the two.  I’ve tested all the voltages on both tracks using the same transformer and there is no variation.  It’s all the same 18 volts.  The old style O27 track will just about knock it over,  but as you can see in the video,  I have to give it a little push to make it flip using the fastrack version.  I’m stumped!!

MIght  be the quality of the ground contact with the wheels; tubular track can make contact with the flanges as well as the bottoms of wheels. Are wheel bottoms nice and clean? Can you run an additional ground to the other  truck?

This accessory is activated using the shoes on the bottom.  One side is hot and the other is ground.  It very well could be that the activation rails themselves may be lacking a good ground.  I’ll have to do some checking.  Thanks for the suggestion!

I found the issue!  After tracing things out,  it turns out to be the controller contacts were not up to par.  I replaced that controller with standard push button switches and now it works great.
