I found that Woodland Scenics fine ballast actually seems to match the size of the molded ballast pretty well.
Looks really good. Wouldn't have thought is was grit if you didn't say. A medium gray wash over top would make the color closer to the moulded track bed of the fastrack - if you have the time and patience. Looks real good though as it is.

Ray:looks great.Thanks guys for the kind words.I try to go up to the top edge of the Fastrak so it doesn't show the color difference.Also I noticed you have to go over it a bit a second time with the glue/water mixture to avoid loose grit.Nick
I found that Woodland Scenics fine ballast actually seems to match the size of the molded ballast pretty well.
When I had Fastrack that is what I used. I applied a bit here and there around the Fastrack to give a more realistic look. That and a bit of a dirty wash to make the modled in ballast look weathered gave a very real look.
It looks good. Makes a real difference.
