Back in 1984 I photographed this New York Central boxcar......cigar band on Jade green. What's yours?
Consequently, I am a sucker for the model, too!

A "boxcar red" shade of car with either subdued lettering or some billboard type lettering: I'm a sucker for'em every time.
Anything on a Marx scale tin boxcar! LOL
Or any N&W boxcar pre '70's noodle-looking logo
Although the Missouri Pacific had great looking merchandise box cars in the "Eagle" blue and gray, (made by ALL the manufacturers in O gauge), I like the plain old brown boxes with the "Route of the Eagle",(also on their open and closed hoppers and gondolas).
Fact is, I like all the railroads boxes with their named passenger trains emblazzened on their flanks, such as Seaboards "Orange Blossom Special" or all the Santa Fe "Chiefs", and the Rock Island's "Route of the Rockets", CB&Q "Way of the Zephyrs" among may others.

I'm a sucker for red and really like the look of Canadian Pacific high cube boxcars. Here is one of my MTH Premiers in CP RR...
Any SP boxcar. Prefer:
1. SP red, with Hydra-Cushion.
2. Overnight, black
3. Overnight, silver
4. SSW, BSM logo.
If reefers are included, there is a list of Atlas billboard cars I find attractive, but in
front of me is a yellow double door (center ice bunker) Hanrahan reefer for the Colorado Midland, with the placard of the Ute Indian chief on the side. I don't have
a separate photo available, but it has appeared in other photos I have posted for
structures.
It would have to be the B&M for me.
If I had to pick one, it would be the C&O Cameo series...

My favorite have to be the Railbox cars and second the white/red/black SOO line
My favorite have become the Western Pacific units.
For me, it is a toss up between these two.
My Favorite Model Boxcar is Evans Products Company, Hydra - Cushion
I like this car because back in the day my brother worked in the Accounting Department.

Lots of great choices and pix! Keep em coming!
I'm surprised that I that no one has mentioned the NYC Pacemaker livery....another favorite of mine!

Being first off a Pennsy fan I have to double down on Ron's (CAPPilot) pick. Back in the day some of Pennsy's advertising was Freight Sharks pulling a complete consist of MS cars. Now I have the Sharks and eight red MS cars plus two silver MS cars. So if I ever have track-age again I'm set.

Of course one of my SAL PS1 boxcars is my fav:
I really like the Great Northern cars with Rocky on the side.
I have the decals for a West India Fruit & Steamship Company car similar to this car, but haven't gotten the correct car for them yet. My decals are for a regular boxcar and are white:
Although I love SP and just about anything boxcar brown (except for those over-hyped PRR & NYC cars, LOL), I've always really dug the Ashley, Drew & Northern's paint schemes on their rolling stock:
For me its simple...Milwaukee Road baby!!!
Which scheme....all of them! :-P
The other ones I like are the Northern Pacific and Great Northern
I'm submitting this for NKP190...but I would bet his favorite box car would be any brown with any Nickel Plate Road white markings! Can't say I blame him!!

My first MR magazine had an article on modeling this railroad. I still have this issue in my collection.

I'm with laming on this. My niche in the hobby is collecting these "subdued" 40' boxcars. I like them all with a different favorite to be had every now and then. Picture is one I'd like to buy.
For me, I guess it's a 3-way tie. One for the oldest and the biggest railroad (UP), the most famous southwest railroad (ATSF), and the old South (SR).
I agree, Vern. The UP "Be specific ship Union Pacific" is a real classic. But so are all the Santa Fe map box cars that advertised their passenger trains. I like the Southern, but for me it's not in the same league.
