Some quick pics of of test fitting a new building. This was made out of Lexan panels on an MDF frame. The windows are custom cut by River Leaf (thanks Andre), the vents are scratchbuilt out of styrene. It is lit by LEDs and hopefully I’ll get to test them by the end of this weekend. This larger building replaces the original Federal Servo which was a modified Hieke kit and a scratchbuilt flat next to it that was roughly based on a building in McKees Rocks PA. This building is inspired by sections of the old Murray Body plant in Detroit which is now the Russell Industrial Center.

Awesome structure Norm.

Spectacular, Norm. You are the master of understatement.

Any pics of the old structure so we can see the difference side by side?
These are the ones I took out. I sold the original Fed Servo at York and the McKees flat may get reused somewhere else.

Here’s some phone shots of the experimental LED lights at different levels of brightness. I used strip LEDs from eBay and they are powered through an adjustable DC power supply module from Banggood. I wanted the lighting to look like bare incandescent lamps hanging from the ceiling. I don’t like the look of overly bright structure lighting as it’s the first thing that ‘gives it away’...

Very nice Norm!

You da man Norm! Nice work.
Norm,
I thought your ductwork came out great. The first thing I noticed about them was the little crease you put in each section. Most of us would never think to do that. That detail made the ducting look completely real to me. Great job.
Outstanding work Norm, very nice!
Excellent!
Wow Dave, glad you and your dad liked the buildings and I'm happy to see they went to a good home. Please let me know if you have any questions about them.
Alan, thanks for noticing. The larger duct is .010" styrene over a balsa stick and the smaller ducts are rectangular styrene tube. The curved bends at the top aren't 100% right, I should have done an inside radius too but felt it wasn't that noticeable. I folded the .010" styrene over the edge of a 1-2-3 block to make the bends for the big duct. They came out semi-ok and I think that maybe using some thin brass sheet would give me a more crisp look. Some of the styrene bends aren't that nice and I destroyed a few in the process. I wish I had your styrene skills!
Thanks for kind words everybody. I did some touch-up on the scenery around it last night and now I think I might be done with it for now. I am thinking I should have lit the sign too.
It is truly a great piece of work. Thanks for sharing.
