I received a MTH FA A unit that only has the whistle and bell. It is a conventional engine off the Z500. It is not much but showed me how strong it can run.

Would I be wasting good money to look into putting a PS2 System into this engine? I would think to like the power option to lash up with my AA as two powered units with 4 motors total on a tether.

That is where I am stumped. The A unit does not have a tether at all. Does this mean my idea to upgrade it to PS2 sunk?

You can still upgrade your A unit to PS-2, if you can find a diesel upgrade kit.

Does your second A unit have motors, or is it a dummy?

If it has motors, you would need either a 2nd upgrade kit, and run them as a lashup, or you would need a diesel slave kit for it.

Then you will have a tether between the two.

For what its worth, you may be better off to seek out a similar PS-2 engine rather than upgrad yours. You might well be money ahead.

As I go about my hunt for a powered FA unit, I learned from MTH that when you have a pair of A-A that are both powered with a Unpowered dummy (Tethered to all) both motors need to be equipped with a Protosound two board.

Now one A unit does have PS2 and does well when located ahead of the train but behind the dummy units. Should I find a power chassis or a FA unit it must have PS2? Or can I cheat and simply put a proto sound 1 equipped engine in there?
