After needing some substantial power going on 12 years since I built my layout and using power bricks for my track power and 2 oldie but goody ZW's for lights and accessories this showed up from Nassau Hobby today! So far it's "Awesome" I even beefed up my shelf over the weekend to make sure this MONSTER had a solid platform. Thank's Charlie for your usual fast and excellent service! My new ZW-L is right at home with it's 2 older counter parts!

Upgrading power is always a good move. Back in the '60s it was "Power to the People". Now we all know it's "Power to the Trains".

I run a few Z-4K transformers and have a very high respect for the ZW-L. I am very happy for the Orange box guys as they now have some horsepower available to retire the out dated ZW.

Sometimes somethings are best unsaid. I've noticed with most retailers and sponsors included. They have a published price and then they have a "preferred customer cash price". Those are the prices we don't hear about.
They are great. A lot of our club members use them.
The above turns into the below when shopping for trains.
You do need a tall stack for today's trains.
I learned that as a young kid.
Please keep in mind every time you start up that gigantic ZW-L train transformer your local electric utility company loves you more than ever!

Congrats on your new ZW-L, I agree with the purchase but will not remortgage my home to acquire one. When they come down in cost a might I will join you with owning one. I have 2 Z4K's, 3 old ZW's and a couple KW's right now that run my power station.
All those different transformers grouped together, did not cost me what Lionel now wants for a new ZW-L.

I imagine the price will not be coming down, but going the other way like everything else in the recent train catalogs. I'd like to have one also, but need other layout items first. Just hope the price doesn't go up too much before I get around to getting one.

You maybe right about the cost, however the Z4K and the old ZW's get the job done without any problems, the ZW-L does have a conventional mode right from the transformer however, which is a real nice option. Sooner or later I will be able to pick one up used, for reasonable money.

I love mine. The power is great...but that on/off switch is so dang convenient. Enjoy.
One word of warning though. My wife noticed I was caressing it....she was skeptical when i told her it was just to get the gauges to work.

One of the reasons I went with the ZW-L is a much finer control if I'm running in conventional with my cab-2. A big reason for buying it is circuit the protection it offers for the delicate and expensive electronics in my engines. The old Lionel transformers were OK in their day when we didn't have the advances we have now and are still perfectly fine to run lights and accessories.
