FYI: Our flag was first named Old Glory by a 19th Century sea captain named William Driver, who eventually settled in Nashville, TN. For many years, his gravesite in the old Nashville City Cemetary was the ONLY site where an all-weather flag was flown 24/7. As a former Nashville tour guide, I have taken hundreds of people to view his gravesite. Also, the Broadway composer, George M. Cohan wrote the wonderful rousing song, Grand Old Flag, to honor our flag. James Cagney famously portrayed Mr. Cohan in the equally rousing film, Yankee Doodle Dandy.

Uh,I missed it....but I still fly 48 & 49 star flags pretty much daily. They are made better and it's not against the flag code in any way. My 50 star flags simply wore out or stained too easily.

7 layout flags on 4 out of 8 layouts, the Christmas, carpet central, micro-tv, and N don't have one..... yet      The 4.5x9 has three 50 star versions.. and two 12"x 20" (ish) drapped on the plain side of the backdrop on either side of a view space between them.

Regarding Stephen Driver mentioned by Tinplate Art:

He rescued the mutineers of the Bounty.

Friends presented him with a 24-star flag, which is the flag he first referred to as "Old Glory!" as unfurled for the first time at sea. Because he lived Nashville during the Civil War, he kept the flag hidden during the war.

The flag has an anchor appliqued in the lower-right corner of the canton. ("Old Glory" may no longer be opened up to be photographed, and no color photograph is available.)
