I think I've made myself another project and need some advice.

I need to get some stake pockets, I see plastic and metal versions.  Which type has the best detail and strength?

I'm still in the planning stages but I'm leaning towards using styrene to make the flat car, it's going to be a model of the SAL woodrack/pulpwood cars:

SAL 46073 BENT RAIL

Of course the bent rail assembly will be metal rail, maybe can get away with using some old HO brass rail.

The hard part is finding a diagram/blueprint of this car.  I have photos, but no dimensional data other than they were built here in Portsmouth using old 40' flat cars.

The only O-scale flat cars I have are Lionel cars with fishbelly sides, these had fishbelly underframes and flat sides.

One of my Lionel cars is lettered for ATSF, but I have a photo of a similar N&W car that I may use to convert the Lionel car:

N&W+70300+FD+pulpwood+car

I'll likely build at least 2 of these for SAL and convert one I have from ATSF to N&W.

Bob,

I use stake pockets from Grandt Line and have bought them in the past in bulk amounts.  They are styrene and come in a 1 or 2 bolt style both of which can be mounted very securely to a styrene car side with Tenax, or to a resin or wood side car using CA.

You might be able to get away with using one of the old Berkshire Valley // Chooch resin flat cars for the basic car - they do show up now and again....

I took the 2 drawing parts Warren provided and cobbled them into one:

SAL 42' flatcar

Hard to read unless you have a program that will enable you to change the size and resolution.  I'm using an old version of Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition that came with another program I bought years ago.

I got an email from two of the other ACL/SAL guys and they are going to send me what I hope is a better drawing.
