I don't see anything there for the 583 crane.  Tom Seccia's "Parts and Service for AC Gilbert's American Flyer Trains" (the version I have is from 2009) has a diagram for the 583 (and the 752).  You could try to email him at seccia@aol.com (dunno if that works).  I don't know whether Tom Barker's new book includes accessories...

Well,  the e-unit on the 583 is a bit sticky.  I got the crane to move back and forth and now the magnet works.  Thought I would use a separate transformer for it so I can slow it down.  If I slow it down too much, the magnet doesnt work well.  Think I'll wire it up with full power to the magnet and a rheostat for the motor with an electronic e unit.
