The Golden Gate American Flyer Club is pleased to announce our upcoming Flyer Fest West to be held on May 19th, 20th and 21st at the Poplar Event Center in San Mateo California, just south of San Francisco.  As a convention car, we have a really exciting two car Deep Rock Tank Car set, which you can see by going to our website at http://www.ggafc.org.  The cars will be numbered 24317 and 24318, which are in the same general numbering area as the original Gilbert Flyer Deep Rock tank cars 24321 and the rare 24320.  As you will see though, ours are a lot more colorful.

Friday's event will be a ride into San Francisco via BART, with a Cable Car ride to Fisherman's Wharf and Lunch at Scoma's.   You will also get a chance to see and perhaps ride historic streetcars on San Francisco's famous F line.

Saturday will be the trading day from 10 am to 3 pm followed by a banquet that evening at the Event Center.

Sunday will feature Layout Tours.

More information and registration forms are available on the website.   Please plan to join us for this great weekend event.

At $190 for the tank car pair shipped, these are just too pricey. The TCA did a beautifully done two car set that included a NASA rocket flat and unloading box car (with shipping included) this past year for $170. These were two operating cars! You may want to go back and reconsider the pricing, guys.

I made a few phone calls to get the full story on the car, so sorry for the delayed response.

The car was made by Lionel through the LCCA and is essentially the same as the LCCA O gauge car but on S gauge trucks.  It is one of two made by Lionel for a club member, and he has made one of them available for use as a prize at our convention.  Sorry if we got your hopes up about a possible new release.

I haven't seen the actual container car that will be offered as a prize, but I am keeping an open mind.   Someone who has seen the new Lionel S auto carriers, which are O bodies on S gauge trucks tells me that they don't look too oversize.  He has even taken some 1/64 scale cars and placed them inside and says they fit perfectly.
