It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I bring this news.  My good friend Doug Tome passed away last night.  Doug was a forum member here who loved to scratch build and run trains with us on Tuesday nights.  He was my very first customer and a great guy.  I am honored to have known him and been able to call him a friend.  Doug will be greatly missed.

Dave,

Sorry to hear about Doug, I did not get the privilege of meeting him in person. I have heard you and the guys from Greenville talk about him very fondly, I am sure knowing you guys, Doug was a great man and friend to you all. I was just telling Debbie about the story {name} behind the Coal Tipple when I got home from our operating session this past Tuesday night. Naming a building on one's layout about a past friend to me says alot about that person. Deb and myself want to express our condolences to you and Dougs family. If I can do anything for you brother, you know I am just a call away!

Take Care,

Jeff & Debbie James

Doug was a great friend when he lived in Racine, WI, working for Johnson Wax. When he moved to PA, he gave me the lumber from his then G scale layout because he didn't want to take it along to PA and knew he'd have a different size space he'd be working with there. Once I had rebuilt my Lionel layout with his lumber, I named my main freight yard, Tome Yard, in his honor. Fortunately, both he and his wife, Jean, were able to see his lumber reused on my layout the couple times they came back to Racine to see friends and restock their pantry with J-Wax items. He had many railroad friends in the Racine area and will be missed by those of us here. I will especially miss our daily emails we had until his final turn a few weeks ago.

Rest in peace, Doug. All of us in WI and PA will miss you.

My sympathy to the family. Rest in peace Doug.

I thought I would share something different about Doug Tome. I have on my layout a  couple sections of masonite that is painted with paint drop on the layout side and painted white on the outside. The outside has various stickers, patches, signs, etc. along with signatures of fellow train collectors, family and friends that visit the layout. We call this our "wall of fame" I am very lucky to have had Doug sign the "wall of fame" on his last visit. Although I only knew Doug for a short amount of time, it was my privilege to have known him.
