Today's the day - don't delay!
I've tried several times and the shipping gets added back in at checkout. In the meantime, one of my items was purchase by someone else. I didn't want to lose my other cart items, so I paid the shipping.

If you've got a minimum of $100 in your cart that shouldn't be happening. It is one discount code per checkout though, so make sure if you've got a browser app that searches for discounts it isn't overwriting what you've entered.

When I tried it, it gave me the discount, but the web site added ten dollars to the listed price and doesn’t say why.

Most likely, the item you were in the process of buying was purchased simultaneously by someone else. Their transaction was completed before yours. The system automatically processed the next available item of the same model which was priced ten dollars higher (perhaps higher quality or a newer listing than the one you were trying to purchase).
No that’s not it.
I tried 3 times loading it in the cart, and every time it showed the correct price until I’d get to the payment page then it would show 10.00 higher. With no explanation.
Given the consistent $10 difference it makes me think there's a discount code on your cart already, and when you enter DERBYFREE for the free shipping, it's overwriting that other discount. Our checkout system only allows one discount, so whether that's DERBYFREE or a $10 off code, you'll have to choose what works best for you.
If you believe that isn't the case, take some screenshots and use the customer service contact form for us to take a look at.
The code worked for me. Snagged another LIRR RS1.
