I just acquired a set of O27 PRR Madison Cars. I really like the detail but am not thrilled with the way they roll. The copper band rubbing against the axels, regardless of lubricant, slows the revolutions substantially. I also gather that the wheels are not needlepoint.

Also, unlike other O27 cars I have, they tend to derail entering and leaving one particular switch.

I could probably live with both of these annoyances by running them on my wider outer loop, but would prefer my inside Y instead (that's where the train station is). Would removing the center wheelset help? If so, how is it done?

Any tips?
