Cool stuff!
Can you tell me if the Quanah in the QA&P is for a place or for Quanah Parker?
Quanah, Acme & Pacific refers to two towns in Hardeman county Texas and a charter destination that was achieved through a connection with AT&SF. Don Hofsommer did an outstanding job documenting this railroad with his 1991 book, QUANAH ROUTE. The railroad had enough records on file to support a study that told the history of the line from beginning to end.
Even though it was only a 114 mile shortline across 4 counties in north central Texas, their corporate culture was outstanding, and they played the existing ICC environment like a 5 string banjo...the line hosted two legendary westbound trains QLA (Quanah-Los Angeles) and QSF (Quanah-San Fran) and an eastbound CTB (Calif-Tulsa-Birmingham).
Even after these trains were rerouted via a better line via Enid and Avard, OK in 1974 the trains retained the "Q" symbols. That has been an unending source of pride for me.
Of course, the town of Quanah, TX was named after Chief Quanah Parker of the Comanche nation. He always referred to the town and railroad as "...his town, his railroad..."
The headquarters has been restored, and it is a museum worth your time.
Very nice work, Rob. Your personal record has been awarded ten merits for keeping the Quanah Route alive in O gauge.
