hello all.

I installed a used gargraves 0100 switch on my layout. It was cheap, now I know why. The points have become a little loose from the throw bar, resulting in some spectacular derailments, most recently a williams BL-2 was highballing through the switch with a heavy work train drag, derailling the engine & first five cars, the fifth of which got hung up on the side of a thru truss bridge causing the loaded die cast hoppers to crumple up behind it, accordion style, taking out a crossing shanty and signal bridge (sorry no pictures or video). There's currently a 20mph slow order on this interlocking.  Does anyone know of a fix for this? The points are made of the pressed steel variety, I have three other gargraves switches which function just fine at all speeds. Any ideas?

Like everything else switches can wear. The switch points can be securely fastened back to the throw bar with a couple of dabs of epoxy. You also need to make sure that the points are held securely in position against the outside rails when the train goes through the switch. FYI, Gargrave's has changed over to solid switch points so the reliability has been improved.
