Hi everyone, I'm brand new to the forum and would like to share some great news.We got it!What is "it?" you ask, well it's the MTH ge evolution hybrid of course. I was able to snag one last week from STOCKYARD EXPRESS,there last one,and let me tell you it is better than i could have hoped.I'm sorry i can't post pictures yet, this is a christmas gift for my boys, but i will as soon as they are out of the house long enough to do so or I can't wait any longer.

The detail is fantastic, paint is flawless, opening doors are a great addition. We have several other locomotives but I know once the boys see it this wil be there favorite. If i can some how talk my wife into it, I would like to get another one in the fall when MTH runs the line again.I can't compare lionel's version side by side with MTH but it's hard to see a $400.00 difference from pictures but both look GREAT! Happy railroading everyone.

I too just received the MTH version which I ordered from Sidetrack Hobbies in Maryland a couple of months ago -- glad my order was able to be fulfilled in THIS shipment rather than the next one later this year.

Quite frankly, I agree... it's hard to justify spending the extra $400-$600 on the Lionel version.  Loyal Lionel fans will argue that the ABS plastic shell used in the MTH version doesn't make the cut when compared to Lionel's all die-cast version.  But I'd prefer to spend my dollars double-heading (or even triple-heading) diesels these days, rather than spending all that $$$ on a single locomotive.  $900+ for a standard-sized diesel is ridiculous IMHO, and not something that the general market can sustain.  For the select view that WANT to spend that kind of money, I say... "Go for it!".  But even Lionel understands that their Vision Line products are not gonna have mass market appeal.  True, they are excellent products, but the price-point makes it a foregone conclusion that most folks will only admire them rather than buy them.  Or at best, some folks (like myself) may own one or two select Vision Line products, but not the entire Vision Line series.

Meanwhile, a whole lot more model train layouts are gonna be running a GE EVO now due to MTH's delivery of this model.  And most casual observers will never even know the difference.
