Where is a good place to send off a boiler shell of a Lionel prewar 260e for powder coating. I have striped the shell and would like coated in bright yellow. I have failed using rattle cans for yellow just can’t get even coating consistency in finish.
I asked the local coating shops and no one has time for such a small project.
any recommendations?

Thanks

There’s a YouTuber named Mark of MT.TRAINRESTORATIONS that does a lot of powder coating of tinplate items. He also sells on the bay. In his videos he works on items for customers. You may want to explore this as an option. Outside of watching his videos I can’t offer any opinion of his services. Hopefully this helps.

I have tried contacting him both on his email and utube comments section and as of today no responce. Maybe he is like everyone els too busy

thanks for the reference.

My recommendation would be to find a powder coater that will work with you on piggybacking it with another client who is running that color in large volume. It takes quite a but of time and cost to purge the spray gun for a color change. To do so for a few train parts is going to be quite costly. If they are spraying a bunch of stuff, throwing in a couple small items will be a pretty cheap add on. It could mean waiting a while though, especially if the color you want is not in common use.

My previous job utilized a lot of powder coated steel parts. We did a lot of black but had some parts that had to be red so they saved up the red until a large batch could be run. Doing any other color for a special project got expensive.
