As if I wasn't doing enough weird things today...see "short thin freaky people need apply thread", My son and I want to repaint our MTH GG-1 into something other that a Pensy unit...we have enough pensy stuff that I may have to change my user name!

So, the current candidates are...drum roll please-

A) a Milwaukee road GG-1

B) a Great Northern GG-1

C)...yeah, you should've seen this one coming...a CB&Q GG-1, and this one could go 3 ways

   -chinese red and grey

   -black and grey

   -silver...probably with red/black stripes

...and yes, we would need either alot of catenary to go "everywhere west" or a decent generator car behind the proposed GG-1.

D) a camo GG-1{boys idea}...he wants an army train someday- he spied my 1/35th scale german armored train kits.

I have two pics to provide a reference for the GN or MR paint schemes...you'd have to use your imagination for the CB&Q red or black version scheme- it'd be like these but no side srtipes.

another great northern gg1

milwaukee road gg1

So, thoughts...tweeks{that red in the MR seems wrong}...ideas?

I kinda like the Milwaukee Road scheme.

My choice would be either the Burlington black or Milwaukee Road. But the Milwaukee HO unit you posted as an example is positively ghastly. If you're going to do Milwaukee Road, I would see two good options:

1. Copy the original paint job on the prototype Little Joe. It would be pretty easy to adapt to a GG-1 and would look good.

2. Paint it all black and put a large CMStP&P herald in the middle like the 1939 paint scheme on the Bi-Polar. Super easy, and elegant.

I bought a bunch of the K-Line club GG-1's back when they first came out and one of these days I'm going to paint one of them in each of the above options.

Here are a couple of pictures:

-Southwest Hiawatha- yeah, that "red" they used was way off....no where close to the correct maroon and that lettering isn't right...looks good on the GN, but not the MR.

I like that idea of the all black CMSP&P...have to think about that one.

-gmorlitz- I like pensy stuff, I just have too much of it given my user name and prefered RR. My origonal thoughts were to strip all the apint off and polish it but that seemed too shiney then. That pink one...nah, painted a pink fire engine for daughter once when she was briefly into models...think that was once too many.

-LennyJ- nice!
