This photos does represent the differences between the Pullman Standard "Superliner" build methodology versus Budd.
Not only height and width but also mechanicals are light years away from the late 1970's Superliner designs Amtrak made. PS went belly up shortly after the initial batch of Superliner I cars I think. Amtrak and I are strangers but I do read old issues of Trains Magazine.
The ATSF car was basically 1940's Budd stainless shot welding technology adapted to the High Level plans of ATSF in 1953. Budd built two prototypes with slanted inward windows. I think it was Fleischmann that made an HO plastic model of these cars in the 1960's and used the Budd prototype drawings. Interesting.
The Budd cars were mostly all used by Amtk in the 1970's. Many of the step down transition cars lasted until very recently. The lounge cars are still in service on the west coast trains. Name escapes me..??? Coast Starlight?
Are the latest Superliner II cars the same guys? Or further changes?
