Hi everyone.

I'm hoping that I can get some help and advice from the wonderful pool of knowledgeable folks here please.

I'm looking to get some cars to make up a  Gulf Wind (or my own 'abbreviated' version) as it would have run at the Seaboard end of it's run in the late 50s-early 60s. I have a pretty extensive selection of US railroad books here but this one is proving tricky. My question is would most of the cars have been marked for L&N or did other 'pool' cars marked for A&WP, WRoA or SRR ever creep into the consist and if they did, which car types?

Also, did Seaboard provide any cars for the train or just motive power at the Eastern end of the trip. I've noticed in a few photos that the Obs car seemed to run into the 60s which is great as those picture windows are stunning!

Many thanks for any pointers...it's not always easy loving trains that ran 3500 miles from home! Lol.

Best wishes to all.

Steve

here’s a link with some info on the gulf wind. https://nolahistoryguy.com/blo...ouisville-nashville/

This is a train I want to build too, I work in New Orleans & live close to the route of the Crescent, Humming bird & Gulf wind.

Reserving the L&N observation car is a good start. Maybe we can get Scott to do a Gulf Wind drumhead for it. I will use my GGD silver meteor, plus the crescent cars to build this train. I also have Lionel’s blue L&N RPO.

Right here

That is bad news.   Very disappointed.  Wierd that Amtrak has approved everything else but stopped on these heritage cars. Slumbercoaches twice, Amfleet, Superliner. Obviously GGD has produced precise models of Amtrak.  No concern of incorrect graphics, color, or logos with GGD.  Very sad!

I don’t know if this is the last or “current” or most active thread for the Southern Crescent. But ……..     I was Talking with Scott this AM and he indicated to me that there was Quite  A Few (my phrase) standby reservations that were not filled. He asked me to put the word out there that he Will Be Extending the production to accommodate All those standby reservations. ALSO …. That the standby reservations are still open. Anyone that missed ordering for this run or wants another car or two can submit a standby reservation and it will be added to the list. Here’s a second chance !!!! 😜
I don’t know about the timing on this though. I’m just a quickie messenger for Scott. Perhaps email him or look for more details to come !!! 🤔

Cheers 😉

My cars arrive tomorrow morning. I'm thrilled for Atlanta &West Point as well as Western Railway of Alabama. Never thought I'd see scale cars in those roads. I'll post tons of pictures.

It’s Amazing to see these two produced !!!!! 😳🫢                           It Will Definitely Be a Treasure for those that bought these roads !!!!!

My 8 car set and 5 add ons arrived today and the train turned out fantastic! The typical quality we've come to expect from GGD. Though simple, the paint is excellent on all cars. Lighting is flicker free and most of the cars are evenly lit. The lights do shine through the window shades but that's a pretty minor issue. I was sorry to see the windows do not have the simulated black rubber gaskets that were done so well on the GGD Amtrak equipment from the last few years. The metal bars against the windows in the sleeper hallways is a really nice touch though. The mixture of Pullman Standard and Budd equipment is neat to see together. One oddity is that all of the sleepers have end doors without windows. This seems to me like a factory mistake but I could be wrong as I've only worked on Crescent coaches in real life. Truck and underbody detail is great and the cars roll smooth and quietly.

In addition to the Southern equipment, I got a coach and sleeper for Western Railway of Alabama and Atlanta & West Point. The WofA sleeper "Alabama River" that came in my shipment was 2 rail so I'll have to get that swapped out before my train is truly complete, but I have photos and a video clip of the other 12 cars attached below. I also need to get my Southern E8s from my parents' house to truly finish the train, but in the mean time these engines are at least green and white.

I can't find anything definitive on what order the cars should be in so I'm running them as the head end cars, coaches, diner, sleepers, and observation. If anyone knows better please correct me! One final note is that I have not yet added the separate stirrup steps which is especially noticeable on the two head end cars. Can't wait to see others post their photos, especially on actual layouts! This is a beautiful train that was well worth the wait!

I received the 3 I preordered today.  I went with the L&N observation car, L&N baggage/bunk car and a Southern Lounge.  Plan is to combine them with a couple of post war heavyweights GGD plan to make later. It reflects the combinations I remember as a kid.  These are so nice, I might change my mind and take advantage of the second run.
