I was thinking with all of the folks with trains to sell using GIFT through Pay Pal that maybe some day, Pay Pal will put a stop to this for too many are abusing the system.   For myself. I don't ever use GIFT as there is NO recourse if you do not receive the item you bought in good faith.  I have a friend that lost his money using Gift to save the seller the fees...Bummer eh ?  Gees only $3 on a hundred !!!   Of course your version might be different and that is fine with me.   Cheers, TOF in Oregon

I also don't use the gift option. I use my credit card exclusively so there are only 2 options seller pays the fee or buyer pays the fee. I've been in business for years and have to pay credit card fees when somebody buys from me so I feel the seller should pay just as I do. If I feel the item is worth the selling price and fee I'll add it and if I don't feel it's worth the extra fee I'll make an offer if I really want something. Otherwise I just pass.

I do maybe 4 or 5 PayPal "gift" transactions a year. No problems with it at all and at $50-100 per transaction I don't feel like I am abusing it. This topic has been discussed many times before. People use many different ways to exchange for goods or services. What really matters most is that both parties are satisfied.

You get all those same benefits when using the PP "gift" payment option.

I asked about this a while back and it was evident that this is a touchy subject with many on here.  I was flamed handily for even bringing it up.  Quite a few were known individuals on the board became very immature over it.  I hope this one stays.  I personally follow paypal's rules which are a binding contract in my eyes and the eyes of the law.

In either case, buying or selling, the protection given goes out the door when using the gift option.  I have also known of people on other forums that lost their paypal accounts over using the gift option.  Most forums I know even have it in their buy/sell rules that you cannot ask for paypal payments as a gift.

As a follow up,  I had one person that would not take a payment unless I used "gift"..  I expained why that was bad for me and really against Pay Pal guide lines.  Anyway I passed on that deal.  Some people charge a little more than what Pay Pal real costs are and I don't know why?  Another question down the road maybe.   Oh ya !  Pay Pal only charges 2.9% plus .30 per transaction.   Happy deals and training.  The old fardt in Oregon...
