Hey Gang,

My girlfriend suggested in jest that I put a train in my front garden. When I said I had the track to do it, she rolled her eyes. That'll teach her to mock my model railroading obsession.

I'm flirting with G scale, but for now am planning on using some of my O gauge stuff. I want to put down some ballast with the thought to glue the ballast outside of the rails to hold it in place, while leaving the ballast inside the rails unglued to allow any water to drain away. Can anyone recommend a good outdoor glue, or should I nix the glue idea?

Thanks Sweetie for the train in the garden idea!

Matte medium won't work, it is water soluble. Once some gravel or grit gets in the gears of you locos you will be unhappy. You might try putting some wood or , better yet, Azak down as a base for your track.

if it were me I would get some LGB trains and track for this, they are made for that type of application.

I'd worry more about UV damage to the ties. I wanted to go "G" scale before I settled on "O", but it seemed like track was going to cost too much just for a large oval (20x40ish) and I was concerned about upkeep, particularly weeds, when we're traveling, not to mention the hat of summer here.
