As the title states, I'm curious to see if an ad on Craigslist is a good deal. A guy 15m from me is selling a Lionel 8353 and 8375 for $150 (both), or $75/ea. I haven't seen these engines in person but the pictures look good. No visible rust on either and minor nicks along the platform on the 8375. He claims both run without any issues. I don't believe he has the original boxes though.
Should I bite on this deal?

Too much in my view, but you have to decide if you just what them or not.
I've seen them sell for $50 to $80 in decent usable condition and I've seen them bring upwards of $130 when in excellent condition. Just depends if your wanting these particular engines. I would buy them to run but pass on them as a collectable investment.
It may or may not be a great deal but it certainly is not a bad deal. It is well with in the range these engines go for, actual prices depends on condition, box etc. If they look nice, run and I want those two them I would buy them. Could I wait and save a little money, maybe but then again how often do you see these two for sale.
Me I look for decent looking pw trains I know I will run. I don't need the boxes I'm not into collecting. I intend on running them hard and often and just having some fun.
So if $150 Will not break you I don't think it is a bad price. If you like to extend you'd dollars pass and take a chance something else will come by cheaper.
In my area that would be top dollar for excellent, boxed examples.
Take a transformer and some track with you. Test run them and decide. John in Lansing, ILL
