Might have to sell my trains to cover my health insurance premiums.
I might have to help the thieves load the trains
Insurance is for Heath and legal problems, that can ruin your life.
I do not need insurance for toys and material objects that can be replaced.
Security cameras and dogs are cheaper, and bad guys don't like them.
I can't find my trains for all the clutter and stuff piled on them and the layout.
I need stealers insurance to pay for injuries to someone who breaks in and gets hurt trying to find my trains.
Then who ripped off Bowser, and why? Like me, just collect cheap stuff. If they rip off the new stuff, from what l read on here, it won't run and they can't get parts so can't sell it.
Dilly...Dilly to TOTRAINYARD!!! Tanner, Duncan and Leia are earning their keep

I to have a lot under my layout.
My home owners insurance covers trains and guns as long as I declare them prior to a claim.
My insurance agent told me I did not need a rider for my trains but I do need a firearms rider
There have been numerous threads explaining the ins and outs of insuring your trains. Depreciation and "replacement value" are important issues to be aware of. I suggest that people interested in insurance look up these threads.
Covering your trains on your homeowners / renters insurance policy often isn't the best choice.
"Insured my trains" would have worked.
TCA insurance is, and has been, very good coverage including transit of trains, fire, theft and other calamities. Reasonable rates for bulk, non-itemized coverage - under $200 for my situation. Works for me for over 25 years!
The TCA policies also offer an itemized policy at a lower cost. You must list each insured item along with a value.
If members had trouble collecting on a loss, would the TCA still be working with the company?
I think I may have had my policy even longer than Art.
By the way, the blanket policy has what they call a "coinsurance clause" which they describe as a requirement that all of your trains be insured.
I am not an insurance professional. I just looked into the insurance as carefully as I could before selecting a policy. And it has been awhile.

This sounds like what I am looking for. I had purchased a collectables policy through a company that advertises in CTT, however, they wanted me to sign a paper accepting the fact that they are not licensed to operate in my state.
Just be happy you are not dealing with, say, aviation liability insurance. I am on Medicare, but I am routinely reading horror stories about private insurance coverage for health care.
Do what I do - have so many darn trains that the thief would need a semi trailer. Then the theft would become obvious while in progress.
Switch to Z Scale, and store them in a fireproof box.

I don't know what our shepherds would do with an intruder, we have always tried to train them to be friendly. Never had a problem with trade people coming into the house. But our previous boy didn't like delivery people or mailmen. Neither does our 6 month old puppy.
The previous owners of the first house we owned had one. They had to lock him up in their car when we were there to see the house.
I have most of my collection covered by Colt, but sometimes use Glock and FN.

When I have shopped around and looked for insurance in the past via the search function here, many recommended Collectors Insurance as a good company to go with.
I think this is the right one. someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If you never leave the house i guess that might work. Otherwise-useless....

No, I have all the usual protection one might have for such things, cameras, alarms and such.

Thats the one that informed me they are not licensed by the state I live in. I had already paid them, and cancelled them after they needed my signature on a form acknowledging they are not licensed in my state. They refunded only a portion of my payment.
TCA sponsored insurance (J.A. Bash is the agent):
75 cents per hundred for blanket (unscheduled) policy.
60 cents per hundred for itemized policy
As I recall, adding valuable items to my homeowners insurance was much more.
Those of you “insuring” your collections with dogs and firearms; I’m curious how effective these are when accidents, fire, flood or tornadoes are involved?
Like CW, I’ve insured through the TCA J.A. Bash insurance program for a number of years now.

The o.p. specifically mentioned theft. As far as anything catastrophic is concerned. My homeowners policy covers that.
Of course, if my house was destroyed by something out of my control. Trains would be the least of my concerns anyway.
Y’all might want to take a second reading of those homeowners policies, by example ours covers general household content, but “higher” value items have limited coverages. So while the entire house + content is covered for just over a million dollars, the fine print details that jewelry by example is only covered up to $7,500. Thus if my wife’s wedding ring or my good watch go missing we’re already outside our covered limits.
I would venture that many of us have train collections which exceed the general coverage limits, new engines are $500 to $1,200 each, rolling stock $50 to $70 per car, does not take a whole lot of trains to reach the thousands of dollars point these days. Have a rather large collection and that becomes tens of thousands of dollars.
The OP and others may well be on the right track insuring these “toys” become those “toys” are worth more than a new car. Oh, and guns and dogs aren’t the best firefighters in cases it is something other than the much talked about “train thieves,” which I still find to be more mythical than reality based. Wonder if other somewhat obscure hobbies also have bandits, anyone ever heard of the depression glass, or Fiesta ware robbers?
My dog will lick the thieves to death and I’d actually be more concerned they steal her than the trains. I like my trains but I love my dog and there is nothing I have that I am willing to take a life to keep. If I have something you need so badly that you need to take it from me at gunpoint, you can have it. I will even help you load it. I am concerned with the theft of guns. If somebody stole my guns and then used them to do harm to others, that would be inexcusable
I do not presently own any guns and when I did they were strictly used for target shooting at a designed range or a friend's country home.
It doesn’t matter what you designate them for, it matters what the guy that breaks in to steal your trains designates them for
