Hey gurus,

Is there a syringe or needle type applicator that I can fill with my grease and poke up into those grease holes on the bottom of the MTH steam gearboxes?  I've had a couple engines that have a removable grease port screw on the bottom so the shell and gearbox cover don't have to come off.  But I can't shove the grease efficiently up into that hole.

Thanks a bunch

I use the monoject 412 oral syringe.  Type that into ebay or online and options are all over the place. I purchase them in a box of 25, careful that you only fill about 1/4 full so the grease flows, I made the mistake of filling the first one and had a mess.

You can trim the point so you control the amount of grease applying. I have one fine tip, and several trimmed  to make application anywhere on an engine.monoject

I use a turkey injector syringe from Walmart; you can find them with the grill accessories; drop by sporting goods department and pick up an inflation needle for a basketball; it screws into the turkey injector perfectly, and allows for really precise grease application. I just wrap a little tape around the needle to block off the two tiny holes on the sides of the needle; I have been meaning to substitute some heat shrink tubing for the tape, but it works for now.

Lehigh74,

The key I have found with Red and Tacky is to get a grease gun with fine tip, about $8 or so on ebay, then the cartridge slips right in, I have gotten over 2 years from this tube, including servicing several locomotives other than mine, I fill the first quarter of the syringe, then put the plunger in, this burps the tube and has me up and running in about a minute when I reload a syringe.

I store the grease gun in a gallon ziplock right on my workbench and no mess.
