The family is going skiing tomorrow at Montage Mountain outside Moosic, PA. It is pretty close to the Gryzboski Train store, my question is, is it worth going to visit? The only reason I ask is that I stopped at Just Trains in Delaware when I went to the NASCAR race at Dover and I was so disappointed. So any opinions please? Thanks

I've never been there, but they have so much stuff listed in their online and magazine ads I don't know how it wouldn't be worth it.
I would go. in fact, I have and it is worth the visit.
If you are going to be that close I definitely recommend you stop by, there store is well stocked with a nice selection.
Been there several times. They have a nice layout and lots of NOS. Anything on the web site is in the back room if it's not out front. You can e mail them an order and pick it up too. You might save on shipping but you will have to pay 6% to the governor. Good folks to deal with.
I can only go by what they bring to the Big E (Amhearst) show every year. I would certainly go visit.
They are one of the largest booths at the show and have an excellent variety.
I would recommend that you visit this store.

They bring a lot to Allentown too.
I've been meaning to go to their new store, which I believe is larger than their old store, which was in Scranton, Penna.
The Scranton store had a lot of goodies, at the time I visited, years ago.
Everyone at Gryzboski's are friendly and helpful.
When, I'm in Penna., for a spell, I'd like to go to Gryzboski's and Weaver Models.

I have as well bought from them and never a issue, but I was hoping it was not like Justrains and just a big warehouse and a little store front. It sounds like it will be worth it.
Since LHS's are not on every street corner, I ALWAYS like to stop in when I find one while traveling. If it's not my cup of tea, I leave. But one of two things happen. I either find neat stuff my LHS does not have or prices are so high that it reaffirms why I like the LHS in my home town.
+1 to Weaver's. If anyone ever finds themselves near Northumberland, PA, you have to stop in. They will stop what they are doing and give you a tour of the factory on the spot.
Ron045,
I have heard good things about Weaver Models from other people, too and when I called them, I spoke to one of the Customer Service Representatives, regarding me visiting their company.
I was told that I can walk right in without making any reservation, I would be given a tour and I would be able to buy what is on sale, at their outlet shop.

I have been there, too, and I agree with preceding replies. It's a BIG place, well-stocked, and well worth a visit.
The deep freeze is NE PA is over for now. But there may be ice. Best thing to do is to call or email before you visit and confirm when Gryzboski's will be open.

I STRONGLY second calling ahead. The one time I decided to take the ride from NYC (it was a Monday and I happened to be off from work) they were closed. Website said they were open. When I say them the next week at the Greenberg show and asked about it I was told "It's usually slow on Mondays. We decided not to open." ARRRGGGH!
Been to their store in Scranton, Pa. chock full of trains, now that they have a larger store and attached warehouse, and seeing them at shows they are always stocked to the rafters, they most likely will have what you are looking for.

I believe that they're going to be at the WGH show in Novi, MI this weekend, so you might want to call and verify that they're open.
Great place.....I live in NJ and consider them my LHS!
Gryzboski's is about a two hour drive from my house and I still consider them my LHS. I think they are worth the trip. If you don't see it, ASK!
Well, I'm lucky. They're only about 45 minutes from me, and I consider them my local shop! Great deals on set break-ups, and individual cars, and a great selection of Post-war, too.

I frequently purchase from them online. Judging from the items they have online, I'd love to see their store.

If I was going to be anywhere close, I would definitely go.

If I was you, I would go to Gryzboski's.
THEY ARE A TOP 10 LIONEL DEALER, I WOULD IMAGINE THERE WOULD BE LOTS OF LIONEL SIGNS, ALL KINDS OF OLD AND NEW LIONEL, AND MUCH MORE THAN TRAINS. THEY SHIP GLOBAL. THIS, IS A FAMILY BUSINESS, IN THE USA...THIS WOULD BE A TRUE VISIT OF A LIFETIME...ENJOY THE MOMENT.
What you see in their store is only the tip of the iceburg. Most of their stock is in the warehouse. Make a list of what you are looking for and they will check their inventory for you.
Scranton is only a few minutes from Grzyboski's. Well worth a trip to Scranton Hobby while you are in the area.

Can't tell you about the shop, but just got my Lionel CC 2550 Budd bagg/RPO car from them a day or two ago. Good price too.
Personally I would never pass up an opportunity to go to a hobby store, especially if it is one I have never visited. At worst you walk away with the pleasure of seeing trains (versus in catalog pictures) and getting inspired with new ideas for your layout.

And Scranton Hobby is across the street from Steamtown Mall and Steamtown National Historic Site and immediately next door to Coney Island Lunch, home of the third best chili dogs in all of the USA.
Definitely stop by. Actually the retail store is somewhat small as I have been told by them several times that 80% of their business is internet. The prices they have on what I call the "staples" of the hobby, tracks, people, buildings, scenery, etc., are the lowest I have found anywhere. They are not very outgoing but will answer questions and help out customers. Do not equate this with being unfriendly. I have worked with Joe Sr. and his wife while shopping there on many occasions. I have bought stuff there and via the internet. Make sure you take your wife to the shops at Montage. The "fish restaurant" there is not too bad either. I might add that there is a Train Store in Scranton, Scranton Hobby 517 Lackawanna Ave, is also worth a visit. (570-342-1963)

IMHO, it's "like Justrains and just a big warehouse and a little store front"
I started buying from them when they had a small ad in CTT when the magazine started. I have never gotten to either of their stores but have met them at the TCA York meets. All my Lionel purchases have been from them and over all the years I have never had a problem with any of the items ordered. They are truly great people to deal with......................Paul
