I noticed on my Hafner/Wyandotte windup engine that the lever that is used to lock the gears also extends out the bottom.  I found this old advertisement that shows they did offer a stop mechanism.  Has anyone seen this mechanism or a photo of one.  I would like to make one so that the train would stop in front of my marble unloading tower.   So, instead of me trying to reinvent the mechanism, I would check and see if anyone has information (preferably a photo) of the mechanism.  I circled the stop mechanism in red.

I know from my own clockwork layout that Hornby made something similar. I have two of them installed. One is a slide arrangement where you push in the stop built into the track and the other is set by pulling a lever upwards. It makes it easy to pull one train into a siding, stop it and then release the other. I wish I could tell you more about the Hafner variations, but until you posted the illustration I had never heard of it. Mine are on straight sections but they also make one on a curve. If it's helpful, I can give you the dimensional information on both versions as you may use it as is or modify it.
