Any else getting excited for Halloween 2020?  My neighborhood does Halloween in a big way.   Sure lots of houses just set out a candy bowl, but lots of others do really elaborate displays.  One house even usually has a DJ.  It's the one night we really see our neighbors.  I am expecting Halloween to proceed very similar to other years,  even with folks in face masks.

For the last few years I've set up a small display layout at the edge of the garage,  and even my better half agrees its time to take it up a few notches.

Right now I am thinking so handrails on stanchions,  lighting,  and a tarp or black plastic backdrop all just to improve the display.

On the layout there will be a new lower level with one or two tracks,  going partially under the existing table.   There will be a street scene for trick or treating,  possibly some aliens, and hopefully bone style truss bridge.

I have a whistle shed that I will probably set up with a push button on the railing.

I am hoping to customize a car with each of the kids.  I am thinking about a spider transport car, maybe something unicorn related with my daughter and possibly something sonic the hedgehog themed for one of my sons.

Any way, I really am just looking forward to working on my trains and being able to share them.   I will post pictures when I really get going.

jhz563,

Below is a pic of last years Halloween layout.  It is 9' wide x 6' deep.  I used grey felt to make the side and back curtains from and hung the side curtains from the garage door rails and I installed a cord rope from rail to rail to hang the back curtain (which can be seen at the top of the pic).  I made my own hooks to hang them with.  I purchased a 10' section of steel conduit pipe, cut it to length to fit thru the garage door rails and had a Halloween drape made to hang.  This I used to separate the layout from the Trick or Treaters.  If interested, I can provide you more info on what I, but this is a start.

Little more information on how my Halloween Layout is put together.  So Here goes:

Halloween Garage Layout

6 ft deep, 9 ft wide

Platform is covered using brown felt

Platform is made of 6 bolt together sections, supported by homemade horses.

Walls / Curtains, 3 sides, made from dark grey felt (72 in. wide, cut to length) with tarp eyelets installed

Right and left curtains hang from garage door tracks using homemade hooks

Back curtain hangs from a rope tied to the end of the right and left garage door track using homemade hooks

Back Curtain wraps behind the Right and Left Curtains to close the corner in.

Halloween Layout / Trick or Treater Divider (Note Pic below is of my smaller 6 x 7 ft. layout)

Curtain made from Halloween material with pocket sewn in to accept metal conduit.

Metal Conduit is cut oversize to extend thru the right and left garage door tracks.  (Note:  I used a second length of conduit to weigh down the curtain and the conduit was cut to fit in between the tracks, not thru.

Table Skirt is made from plastic tarp, stapled to the front of the platform sections.  Plan on changing to a detachable table skirt.

Materials:

Walls / Curtains: Grey / Borwn felt purchased at fabric store, sold by the yard in 72” widths, pretty cheap when using coupon or on sale.

Divider: material purchased at fabric store, various prints available, conduit HD or L big box stores

Grommet Kit: purchased at an outdoor sporting goods store

Good Luck, Have Fun, Any questions - Ask.

My Dusk Till Dawn theme might go with a portable layout as I'm not always at my home that night ... the pvc idea will likely be copied sooner or later too...."too fun" really, lol.. Need a big funnel and an inverted T, the end a hidden door, Drop a rubber spider in the big funnel, and candy comes out the long tube instead.

And I'm not sure if I was posting often about that time, so last years window display video slides and some of the "scary" stock, "Round Up" being the only new car as I was focused on the track work being level on a 30" rickety picnic table/ stool, and power regulation from a cool looking vintage battery charger powering Skull and track both, and the large portions of Casey/Henry display too.

Halloween 2019

Saturday 10/31/2020 at 1:35pm, my Halloween RR station finally showed up. Talk about going down to the wire! It took 11 days to get here. It did not come with the Dept 56 two color light bulbs, so hubby Tom rigged an 18v amber bulb for it temporarily. The sound effects are pretty awesome.

This petite Halloween Std. & O Layout has sure been a bundle of fun to create!
