Thank you for reading.  I have a small (up all year) 6x12 holiday layout that I just fired up for the first time since last spring.  I have two steam locos, one Legacy, one TMCC on two different loops.  They both respond and run, but headlights flicker all over the layout.  They also don't run as smoothly as they used to run.  In short, there appears to be a "weak signal" or something with the ground from what I recall.

Any advice on what to check first would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

John

Good morning & thank you for the help.  I cleaned the track last night.  It's Atlas track and showed very little dirt.  The one loco is almost new and I cleaned the other well.

I'll check all the connections and I do use a power strip, two actually that I'll bypass.  I'll run a grounded extension cord to a different outlet.

I've had a similar issue in the past but not as noticeable as it is now.  How do I check the ground at the power strip?

Hello all, hope Thanksgiving went well for you….  I just wanted to share what appears to be the resolve of the blinking lights.

I found the connection of the Legacy base wire to be the culprit.  I had it split between the two loops and the connection (small wire nut) looked good but apparently wasn't.  I reassembled it and it worked fine except one spot which the track needed an extra cleaning.

All went well running for the kids last night.

Thank you all again, John
