Hello I have a Lionel 2025 it’s never giving me any problems but now for what ever reason its making a strange squealing sound when it runs and it’s not running fast either does any one know what the problem is can this be fixed easily? Thanks

Most likely it need lubrication on the ends of the armature. That is the thing that spins the fastest.

That or it's need of a rebuild. If bushings, gears, gear shaft's tolorences get bad you might experience this too.(usually gears or gear shafts with noise). Wiggle wheels fwd/back/ up/ down to start. This would show axle bushing contition, which usually show the wear first, giving you an idea of how worn other things might be.
I know the exact squealing/screeching/slowing down you speak of. You need armature lube. On those types of motors it takes some lube, then a little run, then lube. Eventually it works in there. At least this is my experience.
