I have been trying to ascertain the manufacturer of this AAR type A truck. Probably from an early SW series model. It looks like a typical vertical motored truck, but the usual motor mount does not fit it. What's unusual is it has a removable bottom plate. I do not know if it was originally 2 rail or had the wheels replaced. I thought it might be a MTH product. But can not match it with anything in their parts listings. I need to source a motor mount for it.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

I don't think it's Atlas.  The Atlas sw8/9/1200 do feature this sideframe, but those particular models don't use truck mounted motors or have outside gearing.  The sideframe attachment points also don't match the Atlas trucks.  In fact, the sideframe attachment points don't match any Atlas truck truck that I'm aware of.

Good luck!

Vernon, thanks for your replies. but my truck is an AAR Type A, your examples are a Type B.

SWRR thank you, the sideframe is the Type A. relevant info are the attachments points as shown.

Joe, I looked through all available truck part examples on a MTH site I found. did not see any match. don't know if their list is comprehensive.

who else had removable bottom plates in a 'china drive' ?

Matt; I don't think its a Weaver. They never did an engine that used the Type A truck. Plus the typical Weaver motor mount does not fit the truck. I am not aware they ever did a diesel with a different mount.

Steinzeit: the wheels are insulated on the spur gear side. typical plastic bushing between axle and wheel. yes the bearings are conductive.

Did K-Line ever make a truck with a removable bottom plate?
