Ok, so I was running my dad's Marx #333 under the Christmas Tree this past weekend, going vintage/retro (with tube track and everything) and suddenly the locomotive just locked up.

So I took it apart and was able to free the mechanism after taking apart the motor, pulling out the rotor and cleaning everything that putting it all back together.

I put it back on the track and I get... nothing.  No movement, no lights, no nothing...

So, is there something else that I should be looking for/ at to repair this?  Could the bulb be burned out and not completing the circuit?  I have it on the same track as my Williams GG1 (Pink PRR) and that doesn't light/move either so I'm thinking it's a short circuit somewhere.

HELP!

Thanks so much!

Sincerely,

Mario

If you turn up the power does the transformer hum louder than usual like it has a heavy load? That could be a short circuit. Disconnect the transformer, check the power at the transformer and work downstream. Maybe a short in your track. Headlight lamps are connected in parallel with the motor and are not needed to "complete the circuit".

Thanks, guys! I took it apart last night again to check it and it looked like everything was in order. It is a smoking engine. And then I put it on the rails without the shell, and behold! It was working! So I put it back together and watched and the lead from the headlight was touching the inside of the boiler, which is where the short was! So, I moved it away and put it all back together and we are back to normal!

Thanks again everyone for your help!

Sincerely,
Mario
