From my understating is that proto 2 had two types of batteries , a 9 volt system and a 4 volt system that was used in the later models.

I m looking to purchase a external power supply to charge the battery when not on the track.

I see that there was one sold,  "MTH 50-1019 Proto-Sound 2.0 Battery Charger".
When looking around at various site, these sites do not state if this charger has a AC or DC output or what battery it is made to charge 3 volt or 9 volt.

I do not want to use a 9 volt charge on a 3 volt battery as it will shorten it's life.

if anyone has this charger the information would be helpful as this is the first modern type electronic loco a 2007 Railking Circus Commodore Hudson and do not want to screw up the electronics as I will be running in the conventional mode for now.

Thank you Larry. I see that it is a duel output 3v and 9v.

With the 3volt being the square connector, the same on the bottom of my tender. 

I will order one tonight. 

Have to say that the OG Forum is the best.
